The slaves played it during the minstrel shows; the White people heard it and liked it and they started playing it themselves and they mixed in their folk music from Europe with it. Btw, at the heart of Country music is Blue Grass music. Blue Grass music is played by the banjo and the fiddle. The banjo was brought to America by the slaves; it was called the Banjar. The slaves also brought their version of the fiddle to America.
