Drake was always just talking about his day to day. He wasn’t trying to start the revolution.

Kendrick just makes better music and concepts that I can relate to as a black person growing up in North Philadelphia. Drake makes fun party music. Well he used to back in the mid 2000s.
Now he’s 40 making songs like this that he doesn’t even write.
Meanwhile Kendrick making songs like this:

That sounds cool when dealing with guys like Joe Budden but honestly this has no bearing on an artist like Kendrick. At the very least people were going to pay attention and think for themselves. If the two biggest rappers of a generation died each other people will care

Even Pusha-T wiped Drake with Story of Addidon, but Drake was able to change the narrative through social media.
Push's diss track was fukking powerful and it was defiantly the best diss track out of the late 10s. It got hot for a while until rap radar interview and Drake called Push an old washed up coke rapper. Drake was able to get away with it because before 2024, the average rap fan didn't give a shyt about lyricism or authenticity. Even though Push was the better rapper, people said it didn't count because he's not relevant (DESPITE THE FACT HE RELEASED 2 ALBUMS 3 YEARS APART)
Kendrick being the same age range, being regarded as the one the "Big 3" of modern rap, made his own waves, and having star power, he was the only one that was a worthy competitor for Drake. There's a reason why Drake's been ducking real smoke from Kendrick.
