Let He Who is With Sin Cast First Place: Easter Weekend Box Office Results (Apr. 18-20)
For the third straight week Warner Bros. is on top of the box office with Ryan Coogler and Michael B. Jordan's
Sinners. Initially it was estimated at $45.6M on Sunday but, like with A Minecraft Movie, that was too low. It sucked every last bit of blood from moviegoers to the tune of
$48M. That's $3.7M more than Jordan Peele's
Nope, which opened with $44.3M in 2022. Keep in mind that
Nope was a wider release, playing in 477 more theaters. In fact,
The Amateur, in its second weekend, played in 92 more theaters than
Sinners' 3,308.
But the cream rises to the top. Word of mouth has been excellent, with
Sinners receiving an
A CinemaScore, which you just don't see from R-rated horror movies. It had an excellent
$7.8M Monday and will probably make another
$10.1M when discount Tuesday's numbers come in. So it'll be well past its $90M budget after next weekend. I wouldn't be surprised to see it threatening the $100M mark by the end of the Sunday.
Warner Bros. was winning even if they didn't drop Sinners, as
A Minecraft Movie made another
$40.4M. It stands at
$349.5M after Monday. That makes it the 74th highest grossing movie of all time, behind
American Sniper's $350.1M.
The King of Kings cleaned up with
$17.5M on the weekend when the king of kings rose again. It's totaled an impressive
$47.7M, which is already the 7th highest total of the year, passing
Mickey 17's $46M.
The Amateur only dropped one spot, down to fourth place, with
$7M. It's made $27.9M which is 15th best on the year and is looking to soon pass
Flight Risk (
$29.7M) and
Heart Eyes' (
$30.4M).
A24's
Warfare finished with
$4.8M to close out the top five. It's made
$17.1M after two weekends and is closing in on
Novocaine's $19.8M.
