Breh, remember he didn't get fired. They didn't fire anybody because they were afraid of the cops exposing the serial killer shyt as fake news to the public, therefore jeopardizing carcettis governors run. He ran off of protecting the homeless from the serial killer. Lester retired. He put in his papers to get his pension which they HAVE to give him. He was well aware of making an exit plan (hence the doll miniatures-remember bunk told mcnulty in season 1 that lester makes more more from that shyt than they do from police work) which I think that serial killer shyt was his ultimate fukk you to the same police department that shytted on him for doing his job. That marlo shyt was the final straw him. McNulty had to find something else but they couldn't do police work or anything for that matter.


On the bright side, lester did get his revenge on Rawls who fukked him over all those years back.
