Personally there hasn't been many subject lines that I would consider Controversial in Films except for maybe School Shootings. When Battle Royale was made, it created a shyt-storm of worry if the film would create problems in the U.S. by showing it to U.S. Audiences. It was banned in many countries because of the scare. This film however never got the notoriety or the controversy of it's predecessor. I think it shouldn't be watched by U.S. Audiences because of the extreme manner that it was handled.

Now that I got that out of the way. This film is directed by Takashi Miike for those who know the name. It's flows like a Miike film ( slow and drags out at first and steam rolls fast when it gets going.) The film's first half is clouded in some mystery with some character development but it does decent for that, the other half of the film is a onslaught of massacre mayhem that last over 40 mins. The subject matter is cringe-worthy is many aspects of the last half of the film. This isn't for everyone. I repeat...this film isn't for everyone. I would say this is the most controversial film in decades.

The synopsis

An English teacher named Seiji Hasumi (Hideaki Itō) is loved by his students and respected by his peers. He graduates from Harvard College with a MBA, and works at Morgenstern, a European investment bank, for two years. Hasumi returns to Japan to pursue high school teaching. However, his outward charm masks his true nature. In reality, Hasumi is a sociopath who is unable to feel empathy for other human beings. Specifically, he has a severe antisocial personality disorder.

:leon:

Definitely interested in this when I seen it described as a cross between "Battle Royale" and "Confessions". Not sure how much of the board has seen "Confessions" but it's bananas.

Nothing about it sounds like something too extreme for an American to make.

shyt, sounds similar to God Bless America, We Need to Talk About Kevin, and American Psycho.

It definitely would not fly here as a major release. I could see an indie studio releasing it, to much controversy and criticism.

:mjlol: @ that acting though. Seems so forced and fake. Something I've noticed with the Japanese films I've watched :patrice:

It's style is of American Psycho with its satire and main character but trust me it's more than you think.

Most indie studio's are connected in some way to the major studios who help release it. I doubt it would be released here, too much flack. Japanese acting is different in many ways but Miike films arent known for their great acting.

School shootings are big nowadays and would cause copycat reactions to it. Serial Killer films have always passed in U.S. Some of the student character development isn't 1-d so it creates an emotional spot( liking, dis-liking) for the characters who are life-like. The body-count is high.

because kids being killed by their guardians is a no no.

and in america, we as adults are every childs guardian.

Its the same shyt as the UK show "Utopia". One of the antagonists literally walked into a school and start bucking kids.

They're talking about giving it an american remake.

That shyt's not gonna fly.

Because everyone in america pretends to be holier than thou.

We run on shame.

On an emotional level, America is driven by shame.

all our wrongs are denied. when we pray to god and go to church, all of our sins disappear!
