I read a book on the boxer Joe Louis some years back and it said that he was fukking Lena Horne for years while he was still married.

She was beautiful but unfortunately she was a pass around that had a rep for sleeping with famous married men.
Such a beautiful photo

I'm learning this daily.

Times were tough for women like Lena Horne. She's a legend. The double consciousness aspect of it, is something I'd like to dive deeper into.

You have folks in here conflating understanding with complete acceptance. Good luck deep diving here :mjlol:

Do I understand her standpoint and perspective? Yes

Do I completely agree with her views? No

Do I appreciate the discussions we can have from this? Absolutely yes

But but c00ns and bedwenches :damn:

If you can't respect another person's journey, I dunno how you are going to have a community.

This and what @HARLEM AL alluded to is all very true.

Except that there's no escaping anything. White men ain't about to magically turn any black person white via proxy, nor is a change in lifestyle a substitute for justice. You are who you are, and chasing after anything else is simply hustling backwards. Escapism will never fill that gap.

As regards black women's capacity for struggle, I think you're way off and would be very surprised. These new heffalumpians aren't built for it, that's fair...because all rebellion is literally being bred out of them, and that's by design. But overall? They're tougher than men and always have been. What's missing is purpose. They got baited with a different purpose that can never possibly fulfill them, and wound up off in the weeds. :manny:

This is purely defeatist thinking.
You are romanticizing struggle as if that’s all black people m/women are good for?

I think Black people have struggled enough.

Struggle is life

Struggling, fighting and overcoming is what provides value to us as humans

And we will do all three like we have been doing

Yes but self inflicted struggle and belief that everything needs to be gained the hardest way possible is not human evolution.

life will throw you curveballs without your creating them for yourself. Black people have defined their identity though struggle and it manifest itself in destructive ways if unchecked.

taking pleasure in struggling doesn’t make you a better person and doesn’t always build character.

And I am not speaking about Lena hornes choice in partner. It’s the philosophy that I don’t agree with...innovation and drive to improve conditions comes from a firm mindset that life isn’t just struggle.
