RIP legend. First time I saw him was as a kid watching a Good Times rerun, it was the episode where he was playing Florida's brother.

IIRC he was also on the Jefferson’s as George’s homeboy who tried to push up on Weezy … man was smooth

Edit: he's taller then JJ. Just looked it up. He was 6'4.

Never realized he was that tall. Can't tell if it's angles or mostly being in movies with other taller guys.

Interestingly enough, his most recent onscreen film role was The Color Purple as Ol Mister, released in Dec '23. Adolph Caesar, who played the original Ol Mister in the Dec '85 release also passed the following March of '86. It was nice to see Mr Gossett Jr onscreen one last time.
