Well I'll be damned, never thought Chile would have a serious thread here that wasn't related to an Earthquake or some sort of catastrophe :russ:

Boric was my candidate from day 1, when polls and the public opinion thought he was going to lose the primary to a communist candidate (Daniel Jadue). He is the best available candidate for our country and he's gonna be the international media's darling for a while, but he's in a scenario were most likely than not, he won't be able to achieve anything significant and most of his campaign promises. Also, he is a leftist but y'all gotta understand that until 6 months ago, he was despised by half of the people that constitute his political coalition because he's "too moderate". It's gonna be really interesting seeing how he's able to manage all the political fukkery he's gonna be handling with all the political parties he needs to align with him once he takes office.

Chilean system is kind of similar to the US in the sense that the President can do a bunch of stuff via decrees and other means but when it comes to systematic changes (that this country needs BADLY), he depends fully on Congress and he's gonna face one that wont let him do shyt :heh: if Boric is able to get 1 big reform that ends up being decent, that would be amazing (even though most people wont see it that way), but the most realistic scenario is him having an underwhelming presidency is term of big advancements, just like Bachelet's second term ended up. That could open up the door for another shytty right wing president but he has a couple of things going for him that Bachelet didn't.

-He's gonna help the new Constitution process, which was in big jeopardy if Kast would've been president. At the end of the day, Boric's term is a transitional one and he should be able to let Constitutional Convention do their job and hopefully give us a new set of rules that will make much needed changes realistically happen in the next 5-10 years. This is key for this country, a lot hinges on this process and if they fukk it up, we are back to 2019, were everything went to shyt.

-He's gonna be given a benefit of the doubt no right win president would get. Also, the right is so fractured that it gonna take some months for them to have some leadership and become the annoying opposition they will no doubt be during the next 4 years.

-He's young and has the chance to create a new coalition for the left, which was basically broken in the dying years of Bachelet and never quite knew how to recover. This is a double edge sword because he either shows everyone he can be a political leader and make a new coalition that works. Or he makes the same mistake as Piñera and surrounds himself with yes-men and people that don't see the bigger picture. Which will do incredible damage to the left.

-Much like Trump's presidency, we needed someone that is actually is a human being. He's gonna have problems, he might fukk it up from time to time, he'll most likely wont be able to do fulfill his promises. But he's not gonna declare war on his people (Piñera literally did this on national TV) and he wont create an atmosphere were it becomes inevitable for riots to happen across the country.

-The economic powers are waaay happier with him than Kast, for a number of reasons (they wont say it publicly of course, they are all right wingers) .We'll see how Boric works with them, it's a huge question mark tbh.
