Kawhi has actually never defended LeBron well, ever, for his entire career. He shoots well over 50% against him, it's a myth. The only noticeable difference in the way LeBron plays against Leonard, per advanced stats, is his tendency to take less shots with Leonard guarding him as opposed to others. But all that says to me is that he's a smart player, and I'd expect the same out of any high IQ player. Because Leonard is a nuisance. As I said, LeBron takes less shots with Leonard guarding him than he does against other players, but he still shoots very well, well over 50%. Really, no one can stop LeBron except LeBron himself. That doesn't change the fact that Leonard is also a great off the ball defender and is good at ball denial and being a general pest. You have to be a lot more meticulous and smart about your shots with Leonard guarding you and that obviously isn't something any superstar enjoys.
Oh, and that gif is from the 2013 Finals, which the Heat won. With LeBron dropping 37 on 52% from the field and 50% from 3 on Kawhi "the LeBron Stopper" Leonard in Game 7.
