I think LeBron should have picked another number to identify himself, kind of like how Mario Lemieux picked 66 instead of 99. I think he should have picked 32 or 6.
What happens if you do become a legend? You going to share a number with a legend more legendary than yourself or have your own number? The good thing is that in the NHL, the number 1 is usually for goalies and that number, no matter how good you are, will never get retired.

However, it's just a number. So many super stars come and go with the same number on different teams. If the league kept on retiring numbers of elite players, we would have teams with players getting assigned numbers in the 30s, 40s, 50s, 60s, 70s, 80s, and 90s. That, I think, would be a bit ridiculous.
