Yeah, but it's what he meant- let's not forget that this is the same man who was calling for the destruction of all Christian Churches in the Arabian peninsula just a few months ago. How do you think that squares with this statement?

my point though. He clearly has no problem being out and out with what he said. He could have said, "don't fuk with islam", but made a point to say, "don't fuk with ANY holy people".

just sayin it's intellectually dishonest to keep the title as is.

He didn't say don't fukk with any holy people, though, at least not according to the article. He said "all prophets and messengers" which was later clarified by the news to refer to Abraham, Moses, Jesus, Mohammed, etc, in other words, to anyone held to be a prophet/messenger by Islam. The use of the terms prophet and messenger give him away here, I think. Here's some info on the specific nature of the terms prophet and messenger as used in Islam: http://islamic-replies.ucoz.com/Number_Prophets_and_Messengers.html

As you can see, it doesn't just mean "any and all holy people of any religion." They are specific terms within the Muslim lexicon. He clearly doesn't mean the Christian version of Jesus, for example, which is why he can promote destroying churches, and he definitely wasn't talking about non-Abrahamic figures like Buddha.

In a statement released by the official Saudi Press Agency (SPA), Asheikh “appealed to all countries and international organizations to criminalize acts ridiculing all prophets and messengers (peace be upon them).”

No problem. I'm no Islamophobe, but this grand mufti just seems like slime to me. He was probably just using doublespeak and banking on people interpreting him in a general sense.

Are you sure about that? Maybe this is true in Canada, but in the US, the preachers (I'm assuming you mean Christians here) are part of the religious Right to a very large degree, doing everything from organizing attacks on abortion clinics to lobbying and organizing to prevent or repeal progressive laws on stem cells, abortion, etc, to helping change public school textbooks to fit their worldview and so on. The only difference is thankfully we have a (legally) secular government, which at least keeps their influence from getting even more powerful, though arguably there is a lot of de facto religiousness in our government.

I called Muhammad a pedophile 10 times before breakfast. Keeps my gums young. But really people can't make fun of prophets no more? This just makes Muhammad seem more then a man. At least Christians admit that with Jesus

For sure.

They are called the American Taliban for a reason. I have NO doubt that if these whackos gained absolute full power that this country would mirror Saudi Arabia.
