Well, I guess you gotta prioritize what you want: freedom to do and say what you want without losing money (like #BBB), or having money in the first place to lose (like lonzo's draftmates that are already worth millions more than him) :ohhh:
there are probably 2 players in the 2017 draft worth more than Lonzo even with the Nike/Addidas deals

Great thread OP. It perfectly sums up what I like about BBB and I hope it starts a trend. The fact that he's doing this on the NBA stage putting his brand's bid in next to the Nike, addidas and UA endorsers is powerful. Hopefully many people peep game and draw inspiration from this

Wherever nikkas need to be told on
What happens when Lavar, Lonzo, LiAngelo or LaMelo decide to speak on politics, race relations, police brutality or any other issue that black athletes are usually forced to be tight lipped about or tip toe around? They can say whatever the hell they want and no one can do anything about it because they own their business and their brand and with that comes the power that has long eluded black people in the sports world.

I enjoyed this read but some of this is speculation and perhaps an overstatement. It remains to be seen what the response would be if they start to demonstrate a social and political consciousness that is bent toward addressing issues impacting black people. Their business and brand is tied to their success on the basketball court. Period. And even then that might not be enough. White Supremacy ain't gonna let them do whatever they want even if they have the talent to play at the professional level. See Kaepernick's situation. This shyt is fine right now because Lavar is the lightning rod. Let's see Lonzo talk about police shooting black men or protest the American flag as a symbol of oppression or something like that AND THEN let's see what happens. My money is on the bet that we might start hearing bullshyt like he's a distraction, he doesn't align with our values, he's not a good fit for what we need, etc. And then you might see folks try to get him out the league at which point he will blackballed.

There are a ton of positives about running your own business but this was a very weak point. Its like saying being unemployed is great because you can't get fired for being late.

1. Lonzo is going to be working for the Lakers. He's still going to be subject to conduct rules regarding how he represents the Lakers and NBA. He's not indie. Most if not all of his income is going to be coming from his NBA salary and bonuses.

2. Endorsements are typically cake. You never hear people saying how their lives are shackled because they have to act a certain way to keep their endorsements. Westbrook isn't known for having a filter and he's on more commercials than almost anyone. It's extremely rare for an athlete to get dropped.
