She's an emcee, but would this be considered a rap album? She walked away with a lot of hardware on her Grammy night, and those aren't all hop hop category awards.

JERSEY STYLE

Glad that she had a good enough contract that she received what she was supposed to get for her work. Apparently she did because she lives quite comfortably and doesn't have to jump through industry hoops.

If this isn't a hip-hop album then non of Drakes albums are :yeshrug:

* or Missy Elliots

Above the fray.
If NOT, then people need to keep that same energy with Drake. :stopitslime:

Neither Drake nor Missy are who come to mind when I think of Lauryn or her solo project.

I always view her and Ceelo as counterparts. Legitimate singers who happened to get acclaim from being superb rappers first.

if she paid her writers... yes...

Completely irrelevant. Everyone knows Miseducation was a team effort. The crew that sued her doesn't have multiple diamond albums either. Just like Lauryn, their work with her was the height of all their careers. Only difference is Lauryn was an integral part of The Fugees, which was another monster album. Yes, the New Ark crew deserves props, but whenever they are mentioned, its always to discredit Lauryn and never to give props to what they did as a collective and people don't even list them by name (Nobles, Newton, and Pugh).

And they are on record saying this:

"I saw an authorized biography of Lauryn [at a bookstore one day]," Jo says. "I picked it up, and I saw my name in it, along with T, Vada and Kilo. And I was like, 'Okay, that's all right.' People wrote about us. It took us a lot of places—it took us around the world. I met so many people. It allowed me to play with Aretha Franklin. That particular album was what was in Lauryn's head, and we just took it and amplified it. It was just a great period for music."

Serious question: Why didn't Lauryn make another album? I read her explanation for it, but I honestly didn't get it.

The only thing I know is that she didn't like all the attention being given to her and it was hard for her to be herself because of the image she had to live up to.
