i hear what ur sayin
im referring to things like the bible saying that a man and a woman were created by god in a garden, which fails to take into all of the ancestors of humans that weve discovered
i made a thread entitled 'what does the bible say about neanderthals' and the bible apologists in here avoided it like the plague
I'm open to the discussion and I'll go look for the thread. I'm a Bible apologist but not by absolute "blind faith".. I have looked at the facts that we have along with what the Bible says (not what a pastor told me) and came to my conclusions about it.
We know by the fossil evidence that hominids like Neanderthals (as well as other prehistoric animals) were on Earth before humans. Some may try to use
their interpretation of the Bible to discount that but again the Bible never claimed to give a chronology, but rather a hierarchy of creation culminating in the creation of man.
Take for instance the days of creation- 6 days showing 3 solar days before the sun, moon, and stars were even made.. Logic says that is impossible,
which it is. Now if one were to take into consideration the fact that the writer's audience was set in an oral culture where memory systems like mnemonics were required for remembering stories, it is plain to see that a pattern emerges. The creations of Days 1, 2, & 3 are filled with the creations of Days 4, 5, & 6.
Day 1 Created Earth & Universe -- Day 4 Filled with Sun, Moon and Stars
Day 2 Created Sky & Water -- Day 5 Filled with Sky & Water Creatures
Day 3 Created Land & Vegetation -- Day 6 Filled with Land Creatures (Culminating with man)
So again, not intending to give a chronology, it provided a way for that oral culture to remember that God created all.. Simple as that. There are other similar mnemonics used in the book of Genesis that follow this pattern.
I'm down for further conversation if you'd like.
