Last day in Dominican Republic. A few observations

Receptionist at hotel I was staying at was a breh that could speak Russian, son said his name is “Vladimir”. First time I saw a black man with that name. Owners were Russian, I saw them pulling up in a Porsche and calling the Vlad breh a couple of times to the parking lot.

Been about five years since I've been, but your findings are consistent with experience, except the Russian part.

Might be a new development, the OG made it seem like that, he said things changed a lot recently and Russians are buying a lot of property there. and might be exclusive to to the area where I was staying. It was in Punta Cana, a place called “Los Corales”. They even had a big store front with Russian lettering.

I know. Haitians do very well. I can count on one hand the amount of Dominican and Puerto Rican professionals I have personally met. Yet I know a shyt ton of Haitian lawyers, doctors and CPAs. My girlfriend is a Haitian radiologist and through her I’ve met even more successful Haitians. But again this only pertains to the States. I know the situation in Haiti is not great but it’s not because Haitians don’t do for self if Haitian immigrants here in the states are any indicator. Puerto Rico and the Dominican Republic do better economically than Haiti but their immigrants, except for those that get into the baseball industry, ain’t really on much.

But despite that you have a few trouble makers from other groups who will lie and act like Haitians don’t be putting in work in education and success in the states.

most DRs and PRs I know are blue collar, working in skilled trades and shyt. They also own a lot of barbershops, small businesses, restaurants. White collar DR/PRs are rare, college-educated ones just as rare. They aint that intellectual, they street smart rather than book smart imo.

6. Met this black OG from England. He’s been living here for 15 years. He’s a chemistry professor at a private school and said he only teaches rich kids and he teaches in English. Said the level of public education here is pretty poor so private schools make a killing and have a demand for foreign teachers. Said the school pays for everything and that he literally doesn’t have to spend his salary for nothing, just been stacking money for 15 years. “It’s a easy life here”. School got him a beach front property and he gets a paid flight for him and his wife to whatever destination once a year. Said the island has changed a lot in recent years infrastructure wise and that the Russians are buying everything. Dude said that even if you speak/understand Spanish, always reply in English because “it goes your way. They treat you a 1000 times better. especially if you black, because they assume you’re Haitian if you don’t speak English”. Dude said he been here for so long and he hasn’t spoken more than two sentences in Spanish.

hmm, and here I am trying to learn spanish on duolingo is this a DR thing only or should I try this in other spanish speaking countries. Depending upon how you dressed would they still think you are haitian?

Yep! Most Haitians I know are doing very well whether white collar or blue collar. Grew up with parents working 2/3 jobs to pay the bills while also sending money to brothers and sisters in Haiti. The Haitian gangsters in Florida seem way more aggressive than the ones in the Northeast.

But like most gangs they usually start for a good cause and then follow a dark path afterwards.
