I feel like I understand my Mozambican inlaws better than some of my own cousins.

Off topic but it's always funny to me to see how much Angolans/Cape Verdeans know of Brazilian culture.

You are the biggest lusophone country and have consistently provided the GOAT soccer stars..
Add in the novelas and its easy to understand the breadth of brazinfluence

Where'd you meet a mozambican breh ?

angolans are obviously not as easy to understand as brazilians but they are easier to understand than euros. i find the same with francophone africans and european french, maybe it's related to local languages in certain african regions? :manny:

angolans are the brazilians of africa tho, i fukk with them heavy on a personal level

They cool until you dust them in basketball or NBA2K ... :pachaha:

Started off in High school (in Nigeria) for about 2 years. We had a Benioise teacher but we didnt really take it seriously.

Picked it up in college again but even then I just couldn't vibe with my teachers. They were far too over the top for my liking. Still, did about 1.5 years.

FF to now, just graduated college and have really gotten an idea of what I want to do moving forward.

I do a lot of self study and use my old books from college as a base. For speaking I go to French meetups in the DC area. I consume as much French news as I can just to keep the interest and hear the sound.

Next year is when I really plan to attack it with even more force. I'm gonna start studying for the GMAT so french will have to take a back seat for a while. Still gonna practice but will split my time between the two.

I'll break it down in a PM. Still at work.

Still making progress.

A "problem" for me at times is that I translate what I hear in French to English in my head instead of understanding it for what it is.

Again, I just need a good period kf immersion and I'll tie things up.

I'm having the same problem with spanish. For example in English we say I am 25 years old, but in spanish it's "Tengo 25 años" translated directly it's I have 25 year. When my ex mom speaks to me I get lost in he sauce.

But things are picking up, for myself.

I should be learning French being from Canada and all but...:yeshrug:

I have that same issue as well.

I'm from Nigeria and most countries in West Africa are Francophone. With English and French you can pretty much communicate with every African country (sub-saharan really) safe a few Lusophone countries, namely Angola and Mozambique.

I'm learning for business and a bit for culture.
