Not like he didn't have the fame and extra shots already either.
#3 among all point guards in FGA per game, only a fraction behind Lillard and 1-2 shots ahead of Curry, Kemba, IT, and Wall.
#6 in most shots among all players. Russ, Demar, AD, Dame, and Cousins were the ONLY players in the NBA who shot more than Kyrie last year. Those five volume shooters won 5 playoff games combined.
Kyrie is #5 in jersey sales, #2 in shoe sales, #2 in fan vote in the East and starting in the all-star game. Got enormous credit for the things he did well, only rarely blamed for the things he didn't do well, and in the media almost never blamed for losses or for the Cavs coming short in general.
The shot he made in the Finals is the most acclaimed shot in the NBA in years. He had people coming out of the woodwork calling him MVP.
The thing about Kyrie is that no matter how much acclaim he gets, he knows he's not the best player on his own team, and so does everyone else. And he seems to be one of those guys that that grates at. He could grin and bear it as long as they were title contenders, but now he's already got his ring, it doesn't look like they will compete next year unless something happens to the GSW, after that he'd be stuck in Cleveland with an awful team...looks to him like there are other options for a team he actually wants to be on and can get it started right now.
