I don't see why he couldn't. People can point to race, but the whole point of the Joker is that we don't know where he comes from. He's assumed to be white, and most stories that give him an "origin" depict him as such, but it's not a betrayal to the canon if he's played by a Black man because race could not be more inconsequential to the character.
Well his look is based on Conrad Veidt

The only thing standing in the way of Stanfield is that the moment the studio opens up the possibility for a black actor playing the Joker, he has to compete with Daniel Kaluuya and I don't think he'd win that one.

I've noticed that fan backlash isn't as intense when the villain is played by a black actor (Kingpin, Zod, Mordo, Harvey Dent), so people might actually give him a chance.

BUT if the movie is trash, his casting will be the first thing fans point to, regardless of his performance. He already went through this with Death Note.

Doubt it, the Joker's popularity overrides a shyt ton of heroes. In terms of fame and popularity, I'd say he's a top 5 comic book character - could see him edging out Superman one day

He doesn’t have the build and facial structure of Joker. I’m a writer-director and can tell you, the best actor doesn’t always get the role.

A black joker is about as dumb as a black superman or batman.

I hate people begging for white properties and to blacken white roles,, instead of building black characters from the ground up.
These young entertainers are so far in the c00n closet, they don't know right from left or up from down.

I think he can pull it off tbh he's got the lanky body type and I know he can add it his unique quirkiness to it.

A black joker actually makes way more sense than a black superman or batman.

A genius who for whatever reason channels his genius into insanity in a crime ridden Gotham...you could go so many different angles with it.

no a black joker doesn't make anymore sense than anything.
Where do you get that the JOker is even a genius? lol
Like I said come up with your our own stories, or own heroes and villians, trying to co-opt white characters because you need white affirmation is beyond pathetic.
