gang members exist for the same reason the yakuza or camorra or russian or irish mafia exist...

when an "out" group is forced to create it's own dynamics for survival..

they form a very authoritative hierarchy that takes "masculine" human roles to the extreme:

provider - hustler - organized moneymaking
protector - enforcer - organized violence

end result is organized crime

Salvadorean immigrants fleeing civil war end up in the middle of a new country

and surrounded by that country's discrimination and gang problem...

over the years creates one of the most well known and vicious gangs

:yeshrug:

it's a societal issue that will take government and civilian effort to reverse...

Japan is just now getting to the point where they are breaking down Yakuza structure and influence...

and they been active for hundreds of years

:francis:

I know gangs in south central arent as organized as the bigger organized crime syndicates in the world...

but upper level members of those gangs hold a lot of influence and money making ability...

that is backed by the abundance of their foot soldier crash dummys

Absolutely true, but the difference is that in the USA gang culture is idolised and glorified...see the famous "Godfather" and other mob movies, Gangsta Rap, etc.

other cultures have had hundreds of years for their crime elements to burn out of mainstream acceptance...

Nobodies crime element has burnt out of anything

I can pull up one of my streaming services right now and watch all types of movies/shows glorifying Asian, Russian, Irish, Italian, and Hispanic gangs

Gangs are an obstacle to advancement. They are born because of poverty but they also become a factor of poverty themselves. Look at how the South Italy is poor compared to the North. The South is taken hostage by the Mafia... If it wasn't for the Cartels, Mexico would be a more stable country, and hence a more prosperous and stable one.

They NEED to be broken. It implies an ALL out attack covering all angles, not only economic, but also social and cultural. Because after a certain amount of times, criminal syndicates become part of the culture . At that point, it will be harder to get rid of them.

80's and 90's all over again. Not going to lie I use to glamourize gang culture but as an adult you realize how stupid it is. Its really just a bunch angry, bored, illiterate, and sometimes economically disadvantaged young men who want to feel like they're apart of something bigger than themselves.

I thought that gang shyt died down in LA but I guess not. I want to visit Cali one day too smh

There’s nothing like moving away from all the negative energy in certain parts of LA..

The worst part of this city as a regular 9-5 brother is your mental…

U go to work and have to deal with some ignorant cac or Mexican who might not like u, but u have to come back to your own hood and have to deal with these ignorant gang nikkas looking at you as a opp, holding up traffic ,blasting their music 1 and 2 o’clock in the morning and gun shots ringing out..

If u have the money and resources never live here and be better off in San Diego
