I expect shyt ton of layoffs, empty shelves, and a whole lot of panic in a few weeks.

If Americans were bytching about egg prices then I can’t wait to see there faces when everything cost 3-4x more :bryan:

I can’t wait to see Americans suffer and live on the street more often :ehh:
It will be interesting to see the ripples.

Even if there aren’t full layoffs , the amount of reduced hours at large employers like Amazon, Target, or Walmart might be the bigger problem. No stock means less work and less profit.

If you’re laid off, you can get unemployment. Reduced hours means your still employed but your bills are still the same.

Buy toilet paper now.

Seriously that shyt might run out

Toilet paper is made domestically.
@Gloxina @Vandelay

This is the problem with panic: toilet paper and paper towels are by far domestically made from companies like Georgia Pacific, etc.

But when people panic they buy shyt without rhyme or reason and it will still stock out despite not being directly impacted from tariffs.

I remember when the COVID panic buying kicked off and dudes at my local grocery store had carts full of bottled water :why:

Toilet paper was untouched until the following week.

It's baseless in that It's not going to be a real shortage, but knowing people freak out and panic buy, I usually cop up either way.

Here is my argument and everyone can wave it away if they want …. Is every part of the toilet paper supply chain including the machinery that makes it made in America?

If not there is a risk of not just price hikes but shortages.

Let’s take that a step further, most things made in America that are 100% manufactured or grown here still relies on trade for things that allow for maintenance, shipping, or even sales.

What Trump has set off is incredibly irresponsible and no one in this thread can accurately predict what will or will not take a hit. So there is a strong likelihood of shortages and price hikes on domestic goods too.

I don't know the toilet paper supply chain, but like most products there's probably something sourced internationally. Supply chain crunches usually have reverberating effects in that something that isn't directly impacted can become impacted. Labor, other canceled or delayed production can ruin other schedules causing price increases. We're about to go through the proverbial accordion squeeze in supply chain.
