“It didn’t really surprise me.

“As they were doing their due diligence on me, I was doing the same thing.

“I knew so much about the situation that the rest of the world doesn’t know.”

Billups was, however, confused as to why Kyrie would want to leave Cleveland.

As a player who prioritized winning above all else, Billups said he can’t imagine Kyrie being able to find a better situation (starting at 7:15):

“That would be alarming to me if I was a team looking to get him because if it’s all about winning—I mean, man, you got a chance to win every single year.

“And not only that, you’re getting everything you want. You’re getting the shots you want. You’re playing for a great coach who’s letting you go to work.

“The game’s on the line, they coming to you. You playing on [national] TV every week.

“To me, I don’t get it.”

Chauncey Billups on Kyrie Irving Trade Request: ‘I Don’t Get It’

"No. It didn't really surprise me. Obviously, I knew. As they were doing their due diligence on me, I was doing the same thing. I knew so much about the situation that the rest of the world doesn't know. But that's unfortunate. He's a special talent and in my opinion, so much of what he's been able to accomplish on and off the floor has been a beneficiary of having LeBron James."

and that's sucka shyt.

Like he was gonna force a trade and then pretend he just got traded and blame the cavs front office.

People saying he wanna be like Kobe. Well Kobe ain't play that game. He stood by his words and intentions publicly and felt with the consequences.
No my boy Kobe backed down. Kyrie looks like he outta here

Kobe never truly wanted to leave.

We don't know that definitively. We only base this on Kylie's first years in the NBA.

We've seen what kyrie looks like when he doesn't have lebron even on a title contending team like the cavs. What happened this year in the finals every time lebron sat?

That's too short of a sample size. That doesn't dictate what Kyrie can do going forward as the leader in the right system. Why's everyone trying to down Kyrie before he even leaves Cleveland? Why the insecurities?

The team is built specifically to maximize only Lebron's skill set.

people keep saying w/o realizing their is not about the structure of the team that's different from any of the other great teams.

1. mobile big men and if you don't have a low post player

2. stretch 4's

3. 3 and d players

4. shooters

very few team in the NBA have lowpost playing big men so most aren't that different from the cavs in structure

There is no Bron ball without :sadbron:

you mean the only way you can attempt to win with kyrie as the man is a team with all defensive players and little offense similar to what Iverson had because Kyrie has tunnel vision and makes noone better:umad:

Wow bro you still finding ways to stan Bron? Billups probably didn't take that job cause he don't wanna fukk with bron either.
Isn't he getting paid more doing broadcasting? Maybe since he knew Kyrie wanted to leave which likely guarantees Bron leaving next year he didn't want to be stuck with the falling knife. Plus I would hate to be the GM under Dan fukking Gilbert with no LeBron or Kyrie (i.e. you have no leverage to convince any free agents to come there because it's fukking Cleveland).

lebron had a way better record

2003 season 18game win increase

The 2003–04 NBA season was the 34th season of the National Basketball Association in Cleveland, Ohio. In the years following their 1998 first-round playoff loss to the Indiana Pacers, the Cavaliers dropped to the bottom of the league and became a perennial entrant in the annual NBA Draft Lottery. The franchise's freefall bottomed out during the 2002–03 season, as the Cavs fell to a 17–65 record, tied with the Denver Nuggets for the league's worst.

However, the fortunes of the franchise shifted dramatically in May 2003, when the Cavs won the first overall pick in the draft lottery. The Cavaliers selected high school phenomenon LeBron James from St. Vincent-St. Mary High School in nearby Akron, providing the team with a centerpiece player around which to build.

The Cavs revised their look for the 2003–04 season, introducing a new logo and a variation on the wine and gold color scheme used by the club during the 1970s. Dark blue was also added as a trim color.

The team made major moves during the season, trading Ricky Davis, Chris Mihm, Michael Stewart and a second-round draft pick to the Boston Celtics in exchange for Eric Williams, Tony Battie, and Kedrick Brown. Later, Darius Miles was traded to the Portland Trail Blazers for Jeff McInnis and Ruben Boumtje Boumtje.

The Cavaliers lost their first five games of the season, leading them to an awful 6–19 start. However, they played 500. basketball for the remainder of the season, finishing fifth in the Central Division with a 35–47 record. However, they fell just one game short of making the playoffs. James was named Rookie of The Year and selected to the All-Rookie First Team. Following the season, second-year forward Carlos Boozer signed as a free agent with the Utah Jazz.

2004

The 2004–05 NBA season was the 35th season of the National Basketball Association in Cleveland, Ohio. During the offseason, the Cavaliers acquired Drew Gooden from the Orlando Magic, and Eric Snow from the Philadelphia 76ers. In his second season, expectations were high for LeBron James as the Cavaliers hoped for a return to the playoffs. Through the first half of the season, the Cavs held a 30–21 record at the All-Star Break as James was selected to his first All-Star selection in the 2005 NBA All-Star Game along with Zydrunas Ilgauskas. However, as March began, the Cavaliers were unable to upgrade at the trading deadline as the team went on a six-game losing streak. Head coach Paul Silas was fired and replaced by interim Brendan Malone.

The Cavaliers finished the season with a 42–40 record, a fourth-place finish in the Central Division, and barely missed out of the playoffs, losing a tiebreaker for the #8 seed in the Eastern Conference to the New Jersey Nets. Despite their collapse, James had an outstanding sophomore season averaging 27.2 points, 7.4 rebounds and 7.2 assists per game.
