I would have taken my chances and force the Lakers to match. He still could have gotten a player option while getting more money. Never hard of a player option for someone not one a max contract.

Comimg off of a rookie contract. More times than not, a non-max contract takes the full amount of years with no opt outs. It’s more common in rookie max contracts.
