KRS-1 got into hip hop in the 1980s, over a decade after Hip Hop was already an established genre and movement. KRS is a mixed bag. Says a lot of good shyt, also says and does a lot of fukk shyt.
Defended Afrika Bambaataa when the pedo accusations went mainstream in the 2010s. Even said that guys like Bambaataa should be treated as infallible. Earlier in the 2000s, KRS tried to start his own religious cult and even spazzed out at Adisa Banjoko at a university speaking event for wanting nothing to do with his planned "Gospel/Temple of Hip Hop" shyt.

Hip Hop legends get revered constantly constantly....on a similar level as sports icons. Been that way for quite some time....even before social media.
