Upset of the tournament right there, great game. Defending champs gone just like that.

Day 8 Wrap - Defending Champions Fall
  • Experience prevails as Hamada bests upstart Arita 5-3.
  • Kyushu Gakuin obliterates Teikyogo 14-4, rack up 19 hits
  • Kokugakuin stun defending champions Chiben Wakayama 5-3 in a major upset, ace Morinaga closes out the game with 2 hits in 4 innings of relief
  • Tsuruga Kehi withstands 9th inning rally, holds on to beat Funabashi 8-6
No one expected Chiben Wakayama to go out in their first game. Huge upset that changes the landscape of the tournament. Who will be left to stop Osaka Toin? The game itself was a great watch and one of the best of the 2nd round. Made up for the first 2 games which were quite poor, with a lot of errors and bad pitching. I didn't catch the late game but it looked like a pretty good one, especially towards the end.

Day 9 Preview - Big Names in Round 2 Finale

The last day of round 2 features strong schools in every single game. Osaka Toin and Yokohama are big title favorites, but upsets have been happening all through the tournament. Should be a good day to watch.

Day 9 of my blog - Invincible Osaka Toin
  • Seiko Gakuin kills another giant, beat Yokohama 3-2. Sayama with another incredible CG performance.
  • Debutants Yashiro attempt a wild late comeback, but fall to the East Tokyo giants Nishogakusha 5-7.
  • Osaka Toin dismantles Seibo Gakuen 19-0, continue their march to the title game.

Great day of games until the very last one. Seiko Gakuin took down another title favorite with their stellar pitching and defense, but will likely be without their ace in their next game. Should test their pitching depth. Next game was good too - Yashiro was down 7-0 until they scored 5 runs in the last 3 innings and almost completed the comeback in the 9th. Really great tournament performance for a first-time team. Had to turn off the Osaka Toin game though, it got ugly fast. They look unbeatable and with a lot of strong schools already knocked out, I don't know if anyone can stop them.

Day 10 Preview - Round 3 Begins

Round 3 starts and 16 teams remain. Getting to the "Best 8" is a major milestone and is typically considered a successful tournament result, so teams will be fighting hard for this next win. Every single game will be good but I'll be watching Takamatsu and their power hitters. Asano looks like a grown man playing with little kids. Happy watching everyone (if anyone still is).

Meishu been swapping the same 2 pitchers back and forth between the outfield and pitching every few innings. I don't think I've ever seen something like this in a baseball game.

Day 10 Wrap - Battles for Best 8
  • Sendai Ikue overcomes Meishu's Ishikawa/Inomata pitching duo, wins 5-4 to achieve Best 8
  • Takamatsu relies on their pitching instead of batting to best Kyushu Int'l 2-1, ace Watanabe throws a 120 pitch 1-run CG
  • Meiden beats Meiho 5-2 as ace Arima continues to impress, throwing a 120 pitch CG
  • Omi surges into the Best 8 with a 2 out grand slam off Nagasaki's ace Miyahara in the 7th, win 7-1
The games are getting better each day. Watched the first 3 and they were all so close. Meishu was on some shenanigans swapping the same 2 pitchers in and out from RF, never seen that in my life. Still can't see an Omi game because they're always in the latest slot..

Day 11 Preview
  • The remaining Best 8 spots are up for grabs. The main event will be the late game featuring a classic Tokyo vs Osaka battle, with Nishogakusha taking on Osaka Toin. Brew up your strongest coffee to stay awake for this matchup.

I think Hamada lucked up with the draw, they don't look good at all.

Osaka Toin's coach looks like the Monstars coach. They play like the Monstars too.

Best 8 starts today, all matches should be good but the Takamatsu/Ohmi matchup should be the most interesting. Didn't get a chance to write up a Day 11 recap - a couple games weren't really competitive at all but the East Tokyo team kept it close against Osaka Toin. Toin's ace Kawahara has been dominant with 14 K's and 3 ERs over 17 IP. Will be interesting to see how they manage his innings with potentially 3 games in the 5 coming days.
