not in the olympics or offseason you don't. And like kobe said you can get hurt playing pick up ball with some friends, at least playing with team usa you are constantly monitored by medical professionals.

The only reason they have this attitude is because the US is so dominant in the Olympics. make this a rule and start bringing home bronze medals every four and i bet they would change their minds.

They went from begging stars to play after doing so-so two or three Olympics ago, to wanting them not to play? It's hypocritical.

And I say it's hypocritical because NBA teams don't see revenue from their players playing in the Olympics, but with this World Cup of Basketball they're setting up, they WILL see profit. They want U-23 for the Olympics, and the stars to play for the World Cup, where they'll profit.

There's always an endgame. fukk 'em.

The change Stern favors is switching to a system similar to that used in men's Olympic soccer -- which is a 23-and-under competition with three overage players allowed per country -- and allowing all NBA players to remain eligible for the quadrennial FIBA World Championship. That competition will be renamed the World Cup of Basketball in 2014 and, if eligibility changes also are made, theoretically sets up NBA owners to finally earn a share of revenues in return for allowing their top players to participate. At present, NBA teams get no revenue from the Olympic basketball tournament.
