They didn't guard him one on one, ESPECIALLY THE 2008 finals. Again this isn't the 90's one on one ISO ball with zone defense being illegal

3 reasons they get killed by the original dream team:

1.the 92 dream team had major chemistry and the pieces fit together very well. when i watch them play it looks like a team that has been playing with each other for years. this current dream team, are a bunch of names but they always look like they have not had enough practice together and dont know where the ball should be leading to a lot of the times the us team playing 1 on 1 ball. with all the talent the usa team has we should still be running guys out the gym but teams hang in with the us team now because they have true chemistry and play very well together. we look like we dont know who we want to be the man on the team.

2. the size would have def beat this current squad. our front line is garbage for the most part. our post game is garbage for the most part. we easily become basically a jump shooting team. 92 dream team kills this current team on the glass and if the game slows down they have multiple weapons to go to in the post.

3.92 dream team takes winning and competing a bit more serious than the current team.

now of course this is without watching what they are going to look like right now. maybe playing together once brings better continuity among the players and they offense moves more smoothly now. but that remains to be seen.

side note, would have been a ton of mismatches that would have worked in the favor of the 92 dream team. who the hell guards magic? lebron cant be thrown on everybody, he guarding magic then jordan getting off. i dont see anybody who would have slowed down the 92 dream team leading scorer charles barkely and nobody who would have stopped the centers. chandler looks great on defense guarding guys like hibbert and noah every night, but he would have gotten torched by ewing and robinson.
