I think any legitimate Mount Rushmore should consist of any combination of these 4 above, MJ, Magic, Bird and in about a decade or 2 add Kobe, LeBron and perhaps Duncan to the possible permutations....and Shaq
this is probably the most accurate GOAT list
I kept my selections to eras/players I have witnessed. How you gonna have a Mt Rushmore called "Lord of the Rings" and not include Bill Russell (the player with the most championship rings)?
Fair enough.I kept my selections to eras/players I have witnessed.
Fair enough.
But 11 rings is 11 rings. And there's no doubt that Russell (whom the Finals MVP trophy is named after) should be on every serious Mount Rushmore, least of all one called "Lord of the Rings"
Yea I get that, but he played in an entirely different era than everyone that I listed. 11 rings is 11 rings, but it was an entirely different league back then. Dude was unarguably the best player on unarguably the best team of that era. Dude was a man among boys at 6'9 in that era. You replace him with any of the people on my mountain and they have 11 rings if not more as well.
However as I stated I can't really judge because I didn't get to witness his greatness or that era myself.
1. Playing against 6'9" players doesn't mean that Russell's competition in that era was limited....which brings me to my next point...
2. Russell's era was actually very competitive and had a very high concentration of future HOF players. Besides playing against Wilt Chamberlain, he played against Dave Cowens, Willis Reed, Elvin Hayes, Wes Unseld, Nate Thurmond, Jerry Lucas, Walt Bellamy, Bob Lanier, Moses Malone, and Bob McAdoo. Add the fact that there were much fewer teams in the league (meaning they faced each other more frequently) and you'd understand that Russell was The Man amongst men (very good players and HOFers) in his era.
3. We can do nothing but speculate regarding how well Russell would fare in the 90s/00s/10s
