I know Mamba centric gear signed a new apparel deal and this gets announced a couple weeks after that. Also a large portion of MA gear was on sale on Eastbay and Nike with a lot of the proceeds going to the MA. Something don’t smell right

I think the deal Kobe had with the partners at the academy simply “ran out” when he died and his estate probably feels strange about whatever proposal the partners had on the table about continuing to use his name/likeness.

They probably wanted one thing, the family/estate probably wanted something else and they agreed (to disagree) to part ways before shyt got messy. He did a lot for the academy by just being associated with it, which was a major deal. He did his part, but obviously look where things are now.

looks like the estate is taking the Mamba brand and doing what they want with it (licensing), the partnership with the academy is finished, and whatever merch they have left with the Nike logo on it is being cleared out.

Now, some of the merch on the academy site is Legends gear, but it looks like a few pieces are left and they are selling off what’s left.

Whatever Nike chooses to do when it comes to the shoes is up to them since a ton of players still rock his kicks and Kobe is still technically signed to them. That deal will be honored and one of those “he would want it that way” type of situations (which is accurate).

But short story short, shyt does look a little funky. The reality is that the partnership expired the second the accident happened.

Kobe did them a solid by partnering with the academy when things were in a shaky place with the business but now that their big fish is gone, it’s time for things to move in another direction.

But if you read their “reason” for changing the name, it’s a lot of babble that kinda doesn’t make a lot of sense.

To be real, with no Kobe, the shyt just doesn’t pop off the way it used to.

I will say, if y’all want some Mambe gear, literally get it now because the Merck section looks like they won’t be selling it by the end of month. I copped 2 shirts (which i have now) and might get a jacket because there’s zero chance they will sell it again.

But im happy with the 2 shirts I got.

It is going to be impossible to get Mamba Nike gear, especially for adults.
