Yeah he asked Urban could he switch this year the 2nd day of camp cause he didn't want to red shirt

What I'm confused about is he still wants to be a QB next year :dahell:

The logic doesnt make sense. He says he's a year away from being a QB, but instead will spend time (burning a redshirt) playing WR. If Cardale leaves....JT is starting next year anyway so why not commit to WR full time or take the RS to get better at QB.

COLUMBUS, Ohio -- Torrance Gibson was first seen working with the receivers on Friday, but the freshman still wore his black No. 6 jersey.

That's because he's not quite ready to let go of being a quarterback. Call this position switch a little hiatus.

Though Gibson was adamant throughout his recruiting process that he wanted to remain a quarterback -- a major reason he ended up a Buckeye -- playing early turns out to be more important to him.

So Gibson approached Urban Meyer and asked if there was a way to play early. The answer was what everyone had been speculating about dating back to his senior year of high school -- catching passes.

"He realizes it's going to take at least a year to play quarterback here, especially with what's in front of him," Meyer said. "He said, 'I want to play.' I said, 'Well, here's your options: Wildcat quarterback, we'll see your skillset at receiver, catching the ball a little bit.' He's a very good athlete."

Gibson had been very aware of the looming quarterback battle, even before he arrived this summer. Even with Braxton Miller out wide, Gibson just isn't going to beat out Cardale Jones or J.T. Barrett to be Ohio State's quarterback this year.

In Gibson's mind, sitting on the bench and redshirting is a waste of time, so he won't. He has been working out at wide receiver, played around with returning kicks and has been a gunner on the special teams.

"I just can't sit the bench for the whole year, just wasting a whole year. It doesn't make any sense," Gibson said. "Play me somewhere else. I went to receiver, and this happened.
