They could have kept it more real instead of making it about some pure holy crusade for God because that not what it was. Maybe some of the soldiers felt that way but the leadership knew they were just thieves and used God as a scapegoat for stealing from their own people.

yeah thats the theatrical cut, the directors cut is actually focused and feels more like an epic journey

Totally agree with you, definitely underrated movie, if you ask me it might have not been marketed right therefore no one heard about it unfortunately.
