This might not be the best forum to put this thread in due to its use, but it is a piece of technology so I guess it fits.

I'm a huge reader and was interested in finding a solution for reading at night. I tried to use my ipad but the screen really bothered my eyes pretty quick. Also, when I tried to use it with any light around me the glare made it difficult to read.
For father's day I was given this Kindle Paperwhite and I thought it was dope enough to make a thread about in case anyone was interested in a great reader.
The screen is something you really have to see to appreciate. It looks like actual ink on paper and even in direct sunlight it has absolutely zero glare.
One thing I didn't know about Amazon until recently is that a lot of times, if you buy a physical book sold and shipped from Amazon, the kindle version will be available to you at a discounted price. I recently paid $10 for a paperback copy of The Warrior of Light and got the kindle version for $2. Its a great option for people that want to read on the go, but also like to collect books.
Just thought I would share my thoughts on this since I didn't see anyone really talking about it, and I was skeptical about reading a book digitally at first.

I've found the Kindle iPhone/iPad app coupled with the triple-home-button-press-super-dim mode to be quite an enjoyable nighttime reading experience.

I've tried to read off a Kindle. It's pretty good but my phone takes care of things. And if I'm going to be reading for a long period I'm usually at home so battery life isn't a concern.

My eyes have gotten after years of looking at screens.
I needed something that wouldn't strain my eyes after a few minutes.
The paperwhite did the trick. I can read for hours on it like nothing.

My phone is like a half inch smaller. I just couldn't justify having two devices like that but I'll admit I got more reading done with the Kindle

this thread just reminded me i bought a kindle paperwhite a year or two ago and it's nice but i rarely used it. i still buy and read physical books more than digital because it feels nicer to hold and is still easier on my eyes. my only complaint is the space it takes up in my bag i thought i would use it more for reading at night but i only read comics at night and have my ipad for that. i'll give it another try once i'm done with my current book i guess.

I have absolutely no complaints about this screen whether day or night.
I was a strictly paper reader for years but this paper white is quickly changing my opinion. Especially when I want to read something at work.
Which is actually another great point about amazon I forgot to mention.
You can read any book in your collection straight from a web browser, so if you forget your kindle, or if you're on the sneak at work, you can just log into your amazon account and keep reading from where you left off.
It also keeps track of all your highlights too.

i bought my kindle in 2014 so it's 212 ppi. it was probably because i had to convert my e-books to amazon's kindle format but some books had glossy fonts while others were really nice. do you buy e-books from amazon?

Yes sir. I only recently started though.
I have a few mangas, comics, and books.
They all look fantastic. Low light or with direct sunlight, the screen looks like ink on paper.
Its very impressive.

If you decide to get one make sure the screen resolution is 300 ppi.
Thats the newer model with the better screen.

I just seen that they come in now.

I think the all black one looks better still.
