Kicking a FG there did absolutely nothing, it was score or turnover on downs basically at that point.
If you score and get the ball back, you fish for PI calls and hope it gets you in FG range.
Exactly. No matter what the order, you need the eight, so you might as well get that out of the way up front, and at least give yourself a realistic shot at the win. Going for the FG up front is at best, putting Willis and the offense in a near impossible situation (needing an onside, and to drive for a TD and two point conversion with less than a minute and no timeouts), and at worst about signaling that you gave up.
