Show is starting to get a bit stale to me.
I liken the show to those Fiyastarter guys and their podcast. In early days it was just a bunch of DC dudes making jokes about sports, going on long-form rants about "their " teams, arguing, and telling insider stories. There was an idiosyncratic quality and chemistry that cannot be duplicated or faked. Made the show and the language of the show (the turns of phrase, not to be confused with any actual language) unique and interesting.
Same with IIWII. What made the good was the chemistry, spontaneity, jokes, and insider stories. Felt like you were a fly on the wall listening to interesting conversations and just enjoying the vibe. This pivot to being more serious about sports and less interested in storytelling, entertainment, and general life conversation just doesn't work for me.
I don't care about the NFL or NBA that much outside of watching an entertaining game on occasion. I want to see the action, not discuss it.
It's also clear they've tried to "mature" themselves to increase their demographic and all that. All that does is dull the show out and put them in the same company of other sports podcasts.
The height of the show was when they were making jokes about Dwight Howard, laughing, then being serious, but not too serious, about how he wouldn't fit into a locker room and so on. Paul Pierce playing the pause game with them and discussing his career, just having a good time bullshytting around.
