My question is why she caught dude going the opposite direction on the highway to the point where she had to stop in the middle of traffic and back up to the last exit.

That trailer was kinda B-movie hard body. Espeically the freeway scene. LOL @ Halle with the axe. I was dying when she said:
"you kidnap the wrong kid"
