Don’t know why these dudes don’t put their closet family members or friends thru school to learn how to manage money if they don’t wanna do it themselves.

I wouldn't trust my family with that kind of money. Not everyone is built for this and I'd rather someone that has been at this a while if I'm not doing this myself and subsequent fukking over some of my money through growing pains of learning this stuff. I've come to find accounting as something that 'you were born to do type thing and if you never desired for it before, then this ain't for you type of thing. Money management is a very nuanced thing. This situation is more of a financial acumen type of thing than strictly accounting but it would help to know both, especially if you are to create a business and you would know what is the difference between GAAP/Tax differences, deferred tax assets/liabilities, articles of incorporation, etc.. I'm an accountant in my 9-to-5. The larger the amount of money, the more that you should want to exert control and awareness over it. They aren't managing companies where someone really needs to mind the books daily so they should be able to do this themselves, meaning the athletes. Learning things like buying municipal bonds in the state that you reside in are non-taxable or is it advantageous to buy common stock or preferred stock and when should I recognize fair value over the equity method. What I've just said isn't the hardest thing in the world for others to learn. I wouldn't suggest learning things like leases and inventory unless he really wants to get the weeds of it all. I just simply look at them as if they are lazy.

Still don’t understand why these nikkas continue to let other people manage their money when these accountants and financial advisors have just been robbing them for decades

Stop being greedy and just let your money stack while you playing

Then do whatever the fukk you want business wise when you’re retired and have the time to be hands on

If you’re stupid and careless enough to let someone steal $77 million from you, you deserve it. Skimming off the top for a few million and you didn’t see it is one thing, $77 million is flat out ignorant. He was asking them to spend his own money :francis:

40 Million Dollar Slaves is required reading for any black man, period.

Blow through 326 million in salary and have to sue for pennies back, former NBA MVPs :francis:

The whole investing in business ventures while playing professional sports, is for the birds. You got exceptions like LeBron and a couple other dudes, but way more stories of cats getting robbed.

Man it's really not worth the risk, knowing the vultures that are out there.

Just wait until you're done playing and be a full time investor.

Ask Amani Toomer what happened to his doctor wife

She was a chiropractor as opposed to a doctor who went to medical school.

I just read an article about their divorce . The allegations sound wild

‘ABORT’ SHOCK IN GIANT DIVORCE
By Jeane MacIntosh

February 26, 2007 | 10:00am

Giants star Amani Toomer is splitting with his wife, claiming she not only reneged on a pact to have kids with the veteran wide receiver but went so far as to abort four pregnancies, according to bombshell court papers.

Toomer has sued to annul his marriage to Dr. Yola Dabrowski, who won’t get a dime if a judge upholds Toomer’s argument that she committed “fraud” when they wed. She is seeking a divorce.

The divorce trial is set to begin tomorrow in Hudson County, N.J., Family Court.

Toomer, 32, alleges his wife refused to have the “big family” they had discussed before getting hitched in a Las Vegas civil ceremony in October 2002.

“This false promise was never delivered,” he charges in documents filed in court.

Instead, Dabrowski “had up to four” abortions “against Toomer’s wishes [and] without his consent,” the Giant claims.

The footballer also alleges that Dabrowski, 34, “refused to change her last name to Toomer,” and won’t cook, clean or take medication to treat her depression.

And, she allegedly “disrespected [his] integrity and manhood.”

Dabrowski, a chiropractor and law-school student, vehemently denied the claims.

In her filings for divorce, she alleges “extreme cruelty,” accusing Toomer of being “relentlessly demanding . . . insecure and paranoid.”

The grid great insisted Dabrowski “cater to his every whim and need,” she claims.

And when she didn’t want to have sex, Toomer acted “irrationally and outrageously” – once urinating on her clothes, and another time tossing her BlackBerry into the Hudson River.

Dabrowski says she became “fearful” of having kids with Toomer, losing “all hope” that he would be “emotionally or physically available” to a child.

She also charges that Toomer, who helped pay for her education, was an overbearing hubby who later insisted she “back-burner” her goals so she could manage his finances, travel with him and entertain his family.

Despite months of mediation, Toomer and Dabrowski have not been able to reach a settlement.

Dabrowski, who has been granted $11,000 a month in temporary support, wants permanent alimony and half the couple’s marital assets.

Toomer, who missed much of last season with a knee injury, is in the middle of a $20 million, five-year contract with the Giants.

Saying “all he ever wanted was for [Yola] to love and respect him,” Toomer’s filings also include claims that his wife:

* Quit marriage counseling after just two sessions, because she was “tired of lying to therapists.”

* Does not like watching his games, and often ridicules instead of praises his play. She “even had the audacity to poke fun . . . when he made a catch [and] stumbled without being tackled,” he alleges. And, she “always chose to travel [on vacations] separate” from him, opting to be alone and meet other people, making Toomer feel “abandoned and unloved.”

* “Has begun smoking” although Toomer “has asthma and it is unhealthy for his profession to be near a smoker.”

* “Basically abandoned” their Toomer Foundation, a charity they set up to help needy kids.

Dabrowski’s papers complain that Toomer:

* Wouldn’t let her sleep “unless she had sex with him” and harassed her by turning on the lights and television to force her from their bedroom.

* Sabotaged her dream of becoming a lawyer by stealing her computer and files, making it impossible to study for her law-school exams and leading to her getting an incomplete for the term.

* Was so “insecure” that he couldn’t interact with his own family, friends, accountants, agents and publicists – and insisted Dabrowski do it for him.

* Forced her to put her chiropractic career on hold so she could spend two years decorating their $2 million West New York waterfront condo, “demanding” it “reflect a style and décor consistent with his position as an NFL athlete.” After that was done, he told her they were moving – and made her do the same thing with the new place.

All them allegations...if true they should have had a reality show :skip:

People think it's the debauchery that kills rich people financially, but 99% of people have alarms that go off in their head once the balling gets out of control. It's the bad investments and charity that ends up getting to you. A cool car could cost you $100k but a bad investment or mismanaged charity could cost you millions. What's worse, we have it drummed into our heads that investment and charity are universally good things, so alarms don't go off in our head when doing them.
