KD was clearly talking about how fans called him soft for opting out of the rap beef. But it’s also on brand for KD’s character - very competitive and a master at his craft but also anti-conventional wisdom. Him saying he just wants to hoop is the equivalent of Cole just wanting to rap. Cole doing all that woofing and then backing out is the equivalent KD saying let’s beat these people and then joining the Warriors. (I had no issue with him on the Warriors.)
Basically, a lot of these celebrities like to exist above social norms but then benefit and profit off of those same norms. Hip hop is a competitive art form where people debate who is the best, Cole himself admitted to riding hard for Nas in that battle with Jay - it’s natural his fans would think it’s corny that he backed out. But then Cole wants to play dumb. I will still listen to Cole but Cole fans need to stop this fake ass woe is me people hating on Cole he still the best shyt.
