Honestly neither..Unfortunately Moi and his secret police did an awesome job of stifling dissent in the 90s that there really is no candidate out there who isnt connected to the old plutocracy somehow.

When these older cats die out then we may see a real change in leadership in the next generation.

True.all these flabby and sick mf'ers were eating with moi back then and now they talk of change:comeon:
So far its uhuru 54% and raila 41%.

they need to stay out out of other countries affairs... who are these westeners to tell another country who they should elect.

fukk that... respect what the people want.

I don't like any of these candidates but then again politics always seems to come down to the lesser of evils... none of these guys has their hands clean.

I don't care about the outcome even though I am a ethnic Kikuyu... its time for nationalism not tribalism. Real change will only come when the whole old system has been cleaned out.

The ironic thing is the US is inching toward the spectrum of 'tribalism' as the US becomes more diverse and candidates in turn become more diverse.

60% of Whites voted for Romney.
70% of Hispanics and Asians voted for Obama.
95% of Blacks voted for Obama.

But what do you think about Kibaki? I think Kenya is going to miss his thoughtful leadership. In my opinion, history is going to be judged as Kenya's best president.

Raila, Uhuru and Ruto all look like crooks to me. They are really in positions due to family names and connections.

But i admit i don't follow Kenyan politics much as i have been living in the US most of my life.

Kibaki was great for the country, his time in office has been a great turn around for Kenya after how Moi left the country fukked up. I'm not really feeling any of the new guy either but what can we do, :manny:

Anyone know where I can find results for local races? I hope Yussuf Hassan gets re-elected in Kamukunji, he's a good dude who really cares for his constituents. Has gotten a lot of badly needed infrastructure work done there and almost paid for his life in his advocacy( got hurt in bombing late last year). He's still in hospital but is said to be recovering and was still running.

Yeah your right. It's going to take time for people to coalesce their identity as Kenyan's first and ethnic tribe second. Imagine how far the country would be if Kenya was homogeneous as Korea

:mindblown:

I've always said that the west suffers the same problems they are just masked under different names and titles.

Western world = Corruption is under the table
"Developing world = corruption is above the table

this is the only difference in politics as I see it, maybe its a simple minded view but it is somewhat accurate.

Right now the headlines around the world have been ridiculous... they are so eager to tally up the body count and sensationalize negativity. I mean there was a shooting here in Canada at a political party function last year why didn't that make headlines as election violence :dead:

More people die in shootings in the west every day. Why don't Africans put out travel advisories:childplease:

The first generation of African leaders who were in the right place at the right time i.e when decolonization began have dominated politics to the detriment of leadership renewal. I remember during the last election, i was reading about how Kibaki was a Government official when Obama was like 2 years old. These guys crowded out the political space but it looks like the older Presidents are on their way out. Kenya's coalition model was in some ways used as a template by the AU when it confronted disputed elections, a smooth election there is a good thing to bring an end to coalition politics.
