I’m saying it wasn’t a great jab and merely some shyt y’all like because he’s going at Kendrick, thus the comment about grading on a curve. In reality, the snippet in the op and what Kendrick said on the heart part 4 is about on the same level if not better
For real. I mean, don’t get me wrong, “Dark Sky Fantasy” is my favorite project from him. It’s hard to revisit though. Halfway through, I’m thinking about what else I could be doing and forget why I felt like listening to it again... like everything’s basic and at surface value. I’m not going to get much of anything new from it. There’s just no huge advantage of listening to him. The rhymes can be mildly clever but never enough to really invoke any residual emotion or second thought. If his raps had a taste, it would be diet club soda zero. He raps like a pair of those 1995 plug in, computer speakers that fell over every time you had to take a bathroom break from the computer lab in school. Sometimes you just forget dude is spitting and your mind drifts off and next thing you know the next song in your playlist is on. It doesn’t help that some of the production come across as generic, middle ground, or like the first track off the latest kidz bop cd. He’s like the rap version of phish but only if they only spit vaguely about hoes, the Detroit skyline and sketchy relationship advice...Probably a really cool cat in real life though.
