Oh lawd

Here we go. Get ready for a bunch of nikkas philosophizing on this lame ass album title.

"You see, To Pimp a Butterfly means a whole lot of things. On GKMC Kendrick ended the album by being wound in a coc00n with the two nikkas from the album cover of "i". Those two nikkas broke out of the coc00n and became gang bangers while Kendrick turned into a butterfly, but even though he's beautiful he still got pimped by the gang bangers and the system and the gang bangers moms titties

If YOU ARE talking to me,nicki has sold more albums than them combined #factsONLY

And more singles than them combined, also WAAAAAAAAAAAAAY MORE

@kobe4mvp

Ill give u the singles but if Niki sold more albums its only because she has more albums out. Kendrick mostly likely going plat again that would two plats to Nikki's one. Nikki' s next album probaly wont even go gold. Kendrick will surpass her in album sales soon. So will cole

Rofl.

It's a spin on "To Kill a Mockingbird" but I guess the true meaning of it will be explained throughout the album

I really like the title/cover. I'm curious to see what the album sounds like as a whole. The approach that Kendrick took to promoting this album has me on the edge of my seat. Album shrouded in mystery until a couple weeks before it comes out. I like that. Enough press in that short amount of time to build a buzz but not enough time for people to forget about it. I'm not sure if I like the new version of The Blacker the Berry as much as the OG though. I think the song sounded perfect the way it was.

A little bit of a bite of the Death Certificate cover but Kendrick being a 90'sphile this kinda makes sense...

ain't no shame in that..kind of like how Ready to Die was a little bit of a bite of the Illmatic cover :manny:

that cover is so fukking amazing, its crazy

i know yall gonna tell me its silly to bring this up and to ignore them but i just had to bring it up. its funny how lsa is like the complete opposite. over there they talking about how the cover is ghetto and ratchet

but im with you i dont really care what anyone says but this cover is just ill. especially the color background
This cover is just :wow:

I mean its a classic cover. Liquid Swords, Doggystyle type shyt...

A cover this hard has GOT to produce a classic album

trying to keep up with all these posts. its funny you read my mind i was about to say the same thing. i'm trying to recall moments in any genre of music whether rap, jazz, soul, rock, etc where a classic cover does not make a classic album or at least a "near classic". i guess 2pac's all eyez on me was a classic album but it was just him basically putting up "westside".

something else i've been thinking about could this end up being like that lauryn hill unplugged album.......but production nthat is infinitely better and more top notch?

Edit:

That IWW sophomore album comparison we have all been saying since 2013 who waas the first to mention it? Was it you @Ziggiy ?

LMAO @ a cat who really just started leaving the neighborhood he grew up in a few years ago being called pretentious. some of you really aren't smart at all.

breh days ago when they first said the "to pimp a butterfly" title on numerous websites like reddit and hiphopdx.....they were bringing up that pretentious thing...and remember this was before we got the cover...

now last night cover is released and the say the same thing....wouldn't we both agree this type of cover is the most non pretentious you can think of?

but these same dudes don't use the same word for kanye someone who is the definition of pretentious at the moment and was talking about how groundbreaking his yeezus cover was because it had no cover...

if i'm not mistaken kendrick is still a blood and has not left that life...i would not say that is pretentious...and no i'm not condoning being in in gangs...just saying kdot is not the type that fits the pretentious moniker

"Sonically, Lamar’s new album is adventurous, incorporating elements of funk, spoken-word poetry, and free-jazz, augmented by lots of live playing. (Lamar says he was listening to a lot of Miles Davis and Parliament while making it.) “It’s a unique sound,” says Sounwave."
