I've checked out of the hip hop scene for a while (though I grew up with it being my number 1 genre) since I've thought it was dead for a while. And while I give him respect as basically the last mainstream rapper actually trying to say something, never been a big Kendrick fan. Not saying he isn't talented, because he is, but never quite my cup of tea outside of a song or two here and there.
But this, this is the release of years of hating the fact that this guy I've always despised, always thought was wack, always thought was a phony and whose ascension wasn't based on his talent, but the standards of hip hop plummeting into the abyss finally getting some comeuppance. To seem him ridiculed on a global stage, in this fashion, this brutally and with seemingly the whole world reveling in it, brought a little bit of the old spark of hip hop back into my jaded view.
