i knew the minute i heard "tv off", it was a similar sample riff of an already NYC classic: Rakim - Guess Who's Back, produced by Clark Kent
basically, the rakim beat arrangement is more complex and has more chord progression variations but when you play thru rakim's verse, there are times when the beat chord progression is the same as kendrick's
idk wtf to call this for sample spotting, where the samples are different but the notes are played back and arranged in the same way as another classic, giving you a feeling of nostalgia, but it's like splenda vs real sugar and not a direct sample to not have to pay off and credit the other songwriters
there needs to be a different branch when ID'ing similar songs like this, and lazy producers have been doing this this decade, and this wasn't the last time i was buggin until i found the other song that sounds alike
