Well after DMX went on the Breakfast club and said he didn't know who Kendrick Lamar was. It seems the rapper didn't take it personal as he stated DMX was his biggest influence on getting into Hip Hop:

"[DMX] really [got me started] on music," explained K. Dot in an interview with Philadelphia's Power 99. "That first album [It's Dark and Hell Is Hot] is classic, [so he had an influence on me]."

FINALLY someone from this Generation that knows what respect is. Did he call X a "Crack Head"? No, he focused on what he brought to the game. Kendrick was born in 1987 so he was only 11 years old when X's debut came out. Even though I was 18, I do remember a lot of young kids liking X even though they weren't old enough to listen to it. My 14 year old brother was obsessed and even had posters back in the day so I'm not surprised by this. Obviously being from Compton, Dre and Pac are influences also but it was cool he showed some love.

:salute:

but nikkas will still find something to complain about

I'm just saying, Missy and Tim have a point and I've notice this in Hip Hop. Jay Z brought this up in an interview when "American Gangsta" came out that Rap Fans do not hold up their legends like RnB and Rock do. Rock fans call their Legends, "Rock Gods". MJ and Prince didn't diss Stevie and James Brown. But in Hip Hop you have a Rapper like Nicki Minaj who clearly was influenced by Lil Kim calling her a "Has Been" on wax. I mean really? You have to hold up the ones that came before you. If I had a dollar for every time I heard a younger fan say "Oh that rapper's old". I'd be rich. I remember during my time, I never in a million years would of thought of calling Rakim, Big Daddy Kane wack or old. I saw them as Legends in the game even if Biggie, Jay and NaS may have surpassed them. This is how the genre goes forward, always respect the ones that paved the way for you.

A lot of people who are between the ages of 24-28 got heavily into Hip Hop (meaning they were copping or listening to albums) around the Puffy and Mase Bad Boy era, spilling into the DMX era. So it's not far fetched. My younger cousin is 24 and his first rap cd that HE owned (instead of borrowing shyt from his older brother) was Dark And Hell Is Hot.

Yea, I notice that too. A lot of us purist hated on the Puff album even though we knew it was still dope but a lot of Young Kids view that album as a Classic. Same as the Ma$e album. Bad Boy in 97 put a lot young kids onto Hip Hop.

Basically. If you were born in the late 80's, chances are you really started getting into Hip Hop in the late 90's. A lot of 24/25 year olds first albums were either No Way Out, Mase first album, or DMX first album.

Rap "WAS" a Young Man's game for the 1st 20 years. But now for the 1st time it has grown up. The Top Rappers, most of them are in their 30's. Back in the day it was mostly 20 something's, but now you have 30 something's still having success, still selling. I think Hip Hop has changed and some fans aren't adjusting to it well so they get defensive. I never got the whole "Old rappers should get out the way" like they are just suppose to retire? Why can't a 40 year old rap? about 40 year old grown up issues? This is why I want Jay and NaS to continue on. Change the subject matter. I want them to add a new category to Hip Hop. "Adult Contemporary Hip Hop". If the Genre is to live on it can't be limited to only perspectives of the youth, it has to grow.
