A number of athletes has done that according to Bill Simmons although he never named names, he says that's what partially inspired that Wade ESPN commercial were he was editing his own highlights and adding extra defenders. There was nothing he should have apologized for here, The media just always looks for something negative to complain about. He answered the questions she asked, just because he didn't explain his answers or answer them with any "enthusiasm" doesn't mean he should apologize for anything.

He was there to talk about baseball cards and his own career, he should have been somewhat excited sense it was all about him. I agree he doesn't owe anyone a good interview, though but seriously it's not everyday ESPN reaches out would it kill you to fake it for a few softball questions?

I was going to name other guys like ARod, McGwire but they are rightfully hated even if they were on a personal level "nice"guys and they never seemed like nice guys on the field (imo), just stoic. I named those three because when you see them on the field they are always smiling and playing around, seemed like generally good dudes. Granted I base these on games and not personal interactions but never the less....

Around 98 though he was not as surly, I'd say he was in that Peyton Manning range of humor, like you could have a laugh with him but nothing beyond that like hanging out or anything. Again, I'm basing his demeanor on games, highlights and those candid camera moments where they don't know the camera is trained on them.
