she said from bey/bey's camp...cmon now. and we've seen plenty artist show texts, or back in the day, phone calls, getting the go ahead for samples. and yes, pharrell is not above being a petty bytch, he knows how kelis has felt slighted at the hands of bey and absolutely would be one to sign off on having one of her biggest songs get hivewashed by beyonce.
and please don't play into the writing thing, one, we know how easy it is to get a writing credit (telling someone to use the word love instead of above gets a writing credit) and also how easy it is to finesse a writing credit as a producer and label head (diddy taught us that), kelis is credited as a writer all over ALL her albums, both with and after the neptunes. i don't even get into writing arguments as they're one that can't be proven
She said Pharrell never wrote a song or lyric in his life which is one of the most absurd statements you could make. Come on. I know you a Kelis fan which is cool but you can't act like that statement is not ridiculous
EDIT: apparently she was talking about Pharrell's manager, who was also her manager, far as getting writing credits while not writing anything. But this ain't true, you can pull up the songs on BMI or ASCAP, the only credited writers on the singles for those albums are Pharrell and Chad.
She got songwriting credits on three songs on her first album and nine on the second. The track in question, she got no writing credit on it. And the sample is almost imperceptible, if you took it out it hardly even impact the song. You think Beyoncé's camp personally reached out to every single artist who was sampled on the album even if they had no writing credits or publishing rights?
