Yeah people forget ATL had the highest homicide rate in the country in the 90s and my parents were always scared for me and my bro. I remember kids getting shot up for Starter jackets and shoes at South Dekalb and even worse. You learned to apologize for slights and keep your head down since family friends lost their lives doing otherwise.

But ATL in the 90s did have a special dynamism. Wasn't so damn crowded and it was really finding its place in the sun from the entertainment nexus like Hammer, LaFace, Goodie Mob, Evander Holyfield, etc. This helped hugely to build the ATL brand. I still remember Chris Luva Luva (aka Ludacris) with Poom Daddy on the evening segment of Hot 97.5. Atlanta Braves being the first local sports franchise worth a damn, and just the feeling of general optimism in the Black middle class community. Every time I visited relatives in Cali or up north they are like "yeah we here that's the best place for us right now".

I'll leave Freaknik out of it though.

Yep my mom was always scared for me when I went down to atlanta in the 90s. Had some older successful cousins on my dads side who would send for me and I would stay with them for a couple weeks in the summer or a weekend during spring breaks. Cause they didn't have kids they pretty much treated me like their son.

Anyway my dad would say to my mom. We live in chicago with more gangs and killings than anyone. Our son will be fine in atlanta for a week or two...:mjlol:

:aicmon: she's a lawyer. She's probably joining Walgreens as a general counsel or something. I know someone who's a lawyer who worked for Walgreens and they were working her to death tho.

In the sista bottoms defense. She sure got worked to death the last year as mayor of atlanta. I am sure her view is if you gonna get worked to death might as well make a lot of money and have less responsibility.

Love ATL but DMV has all that

Not to mention DC Mayor For Life Marion Barry (Rest In Power) doing so much for Black natives in DC get better access to federal government contracting, public service unions, community services and then some as well....This was the same mayor that was running in the same circles as Malcolm X and them :wow: DC may not be as chocolate as it used to be but the Black residents still got some pull in the city’s operations. Their current mayor is a clown who appeases to the Cacs too much but it’ll prolly be a while before DC gets a Cac mayor. Plus, it’s a lot of Black old money in parts of the city as well as here in PG County and certain parts of Northern VA....Plus you got Charles County officially being a majority Black county as of last year too, so you got a region that got a Black plurality city with two large majority Black counties/suburbs just outside it with its own fair share of HBCUs. Hell, the DMV got one of the highest Black homeownership rates in the country and DC itself got the highest at 49% as far as major cities are concerned.

What middle school you go to? What HS? You ever stood in line at the 559? What mall you used hang out at, Shannon, Green Briar, South Dekalb? (Every transplant knows Lennox). What Marta bus numbers did you take as a kid? What squad were you on at Gresham Park? What’s the last spot Hosea Williams did Thanksgiving Dinner? You ever hoop at Run and Shoot? What was the booty club next to it called? How much were lap dances? Remember The Gate? What spot in Buckhead had the freakiest white hoes. Chilli Pepper, Oxygen, World Bar, Makos or Bell Bottoms?

Anything?

Of course the ATL
Yep, I think he will win. He will come back with a tough on crime campaign that will appeal to cacs

It’s ironic that he’s turned into the law & order candidate despite the numerous investigations he and his office were under. We’ll see if people buy it

He will def win. Especially against the current crop of candidates.

He’ll be the most vulnerable b/c he has a track record everyone can run against but he still has alotta loyal followers

I think the general public will only care about how much safer they felt in the city when Reed was in charge. That’ll be most important thing in my opinion. Reed wasn’t charged with anything related to the corruption charges or investigations, so he can somewhat separate himself from those that went to jail. Also If those investigations weren’t about anything that affected the general public in mass, most people won’t care ::yeshrug:

Tough on crime appeal to everyone but criminals and fake militants

the city needs to be safe and all a mayor can do to effect that is hire more police

Bottoms is being criticized for not allowing bait cars right now

He was the yts' boy until he wasn't and I expect that's what his third term as mayor would be.
