Above the fray.
Different eras.

KD missed that 90s wave that Kenya and others took advantage of.

KD still had success in the 00s but I don't know anyone who expected her to still be around today.

Opportunities for "more beautiful than talented" actresses dried up in the 2010s. Kenya pivoted to reality TV during that time and KD "disappeared".
She rightfully blamed her agent, because the Friday series was a career stimulus package and two actors from the one she appeared in went on to success. By virtue of having appeared in that series, she was no longer just some random pretty chick. They should have leveraged that visibility into something.

I said the same thing about whoever handled Melissa Ford's career. At the very least, expected a few roles a year as "the girlfriend"

Aubert's team was really amateurs. I remember going to her website and seeing that they billed her as "the Black Angela Jolie". I said "WHO'S THE DUMMY WRITING THIS SHOW?"

Yeah, that video was just her appearing on black shows in the 90s, where there were an abundance of black shows.

That really wasn't the case for KD.

Mike Epps and Katt Williams?

Two comedians that actually had memorable lines and were able to stand out in the movie.

People are really debating her career? To call her acting skills limited would be kind, and she knows that. Her real question isn't "why wasn't I a more successful actress?" it's "why am I still not poppin' out here?"

This isn't a multiverse scenario. It went exactly how it should have. The only other "good" path would have been reality TV.

As bad at acting as she was, if she wanted to work she'd be working. Not much and not in anything good, but she'd be working.

Katt Williams and Terry Crews
Both of them were funny as fukk in the movies they appeared in.

Katt was a stand up comic prior to the movie.

Terry was a big dude that could make people laugh, definitely more unique than the pretty girl.

those types of black movies died by the mid 00's, and she aint a good actress so there wasn't really no place for her other than some straight to DVD, streaming platform filler bullshyt like "who made the potatoe salad"

Def hood flicks:
"Too Much Starch"
"Hair Salon 3"
"Nailed It"

Hate to say it, but others already did. She's beautiful but doesn't really have the chops as an actress. Maybe people wanted her to do... certain things...to get those parts and she wasn't willing and couldn't do it off talent alone. The film industry is not kind to pretty young women, especially black ones

Let's just make this clear.. Hollywood networking and getting in certain circles for continuous acting work is a little different than career-9 to 5 job networking :sas2:

What we disagree on is what her ceiling appeared to be.

Off the heels of appearing in that popular film, to me, her ceiling was close to the example I gave earlier.
Friday After Next came out in 2002.
UPN was still broadcasting Black Tv shows after that. Several Black sitcoms went on the air on other networks after that. There were still Black comedies coming out after in Hollywood. Some of which starred Crews and Katt Williams, and many of which had bit roles for women to walk on and be pretty,

The lane for her do what Kenya Moore did earlier, was still there.
