Ppl acting like melo isn't in his 13 year, injured, and clearly declining. How is it fair to compare present Melo to Kawhi? Plus you can't even compare the situations. Melo was drafted by a terrible nuggets team and immediately made them significantly better. Kawhi was essentially drafted by the Spurs, a great team already, the best run franchise in the NBA with a HOF coach with 3 HOF mentors. This shyt ain't even :wtb:
Exactly, Kawhi is doing great, but he was put in the perfect position to thrive in. Imagine if Melo got to come up in the Spurs team, they would be unstoppable :wow:

And KD wasn't? :jbhmm:

KD didn't get drafted to a new franchise with no offensive threats allowing him to just gun unconsciously and refine his offensive skill set, which is what he is known for now:jbhmm:

And doesn't he play on a team where they drafted a guy who is now a triple double machine and another top 10 player in the league...that seems like the exact type of player you would want on your team...another elite guy to carry the load when it is to heavy for you:jbhmm:

James Harden has been a top 10 scorer every year since he went to houston...what team did he play for originally:jbhmm: I mean...Houston is building their franchise around the 3RD best player OKC had on it's team:jbhmm:...how many times has that happened in the league:jbhmm: 3rd best guy on a team leaves and becomes a superstar:jbhmm:

Wasn't Ibaka viewed as one of the best defensive players in the league every year except the last two:jbhmm:...isn't he still an upper echelon defender :jbhmm:

Isn't Scott Brooks a former coach of the year:jbhmm:

Has anybody drafted better than Sam Presti in the last decade:jbhmm:... Of the top 15 players in the NBA he drafted 3 of them:jbhmm:

A superstar player...goes to a team that has had other superstars...a coach who has been coach of the year...and a GM who has drafted some of the best players in the NBA today...and this is viewed as NOT being a situation for KD to thrive in :jbhmm:

Wasn't KD a lottery pick...Wasn't he picked No 2 overall...Kawhi Leonard was picked 15th...why are these two even being measured against each other:jbhmm:...Did the No 2 pick guy play down to a 15th pick guy or did the 15th pick guy play up to the No 2 picked guy:jbhmm:

Are you really tryna argue that the Spurs aren't the best ran org in the league. The only reason this is a conversation is because Kawhi has been able to play for the Spurs. KD wasn't playing with HOF veterans who already had rings. Scott Brooks was a decent coach at best. After all his time with the team he couldn't develop an offensive system, all they did was iso-ball. Pop is arguably the best coach in league history, the Spurs have a good history of developing players.

Your post is nonsense. The Thunder drafted players but didn't have the front office to help develop them and fill in all the holes on the roster. Kahwi just started being considered elite, but he's always been on an elite team, its just not the same

Depends on the team.
I wouldn't be so concerned with defining who is the number one option and focus on who makes the team go.

For example,

If you want to define it by shot attempts, Blake Griffin is the #1 option on the Clippers.
But you know damn well Chris Paul is the most important guy on that team.

It just so happens that Kawhi Leonard did (barely) attempt the most shots this season for the Spurs.
But even if he didn't, he's still the guy who makes that team go...and he's the guy you focus on as an opponent.

Y'all acting like the Spurs weren't just bounced out by Memphis the year before Kawhi got there and since he's been there: WCF, FINALS 2X, and 1st round. He's CLEARLY rejuvenated the Spurs. Don't forget homie was a made free throw away from being a 2x finals winner and 2x FMVP.

For somebody like Melo who's been in the league over 12 years and only to have been out of the first round TWICE is a sign that he's not all what y'all love to make him out to be.

I don't think he'll ever be better than Durant. He is already better than Melo ever was though. For some reason people love to overrate Carmelo. This is the same dude who struggled to score on Luke Walton in multiple playoff games. This is the same guy who shot below 40% in half of his playoff games. But if you listen to these fools they'll have you believe that Melo was this unstoppable force.

nah breh, the comparison isnt present day...its overall career..Kawhi done accomplished waayy more than Melo in a super short time span..you can talk about Kawhi going to the spurs..fact of the matter is Kawhi been in the league 5 years, improves every year and is racking up hardware ..in 12 years, all Melo got in the trophy case is a scoring title :francis:
dude had multiple opportunities to put himself in a winning situation and chose not to...so when it comes to comparing careers and all that, he's gone get that work more times than not..i always bring up those all star jackets with the patches cause that shyt is telling...when them joints dropped Wade and Bron were covered in patches..Melo had one breh..one

I'd be surprised if teams are really game planning defensively for Kahwi like they do Durant, Curry, or Lebron. They're game planning for the Spurs offense as a whole, or even what to do in Aldridge pick & roll/pop situations. Kahwi is nice, but he aint a threat to drop 40+ like the others can

They already are, and have been since Duncan was drafted. Not one franchise has been as successful as the Spurs over the past decade and a half.
