"I want out, I want to be traded."

"But only to Los Angeles, maybe Philly if my uncle feels as if the distance to New Jersey isn't too far"

"Oh, and if I hear wind about you trying to trade me anywhere but to LA or Philly, I'm telling my uncle to contact them and shutting it down"

WASHINGTON, DC
Cris Carter doing :duck: or nah? :jbhmm:

Hall-of-Fame NFL receiver Cris Carter has consistently been a source of reliable news on the Kawhi Leonard situation this year.

During his playing days, Carter was represented by Mitch Frankel, who represents Leonard at the moment, so Carter has some inside information that others don’t have access to.

On Friday, Carter revealed some new tidbits regarding the Leonard situation on “First Things First” and says Spurs coach Gregg Popovich is trying to accommodate Leonard in trade talks.

“Kawhi, in meeting with Pop, Pop gave him every indication that he was going to trade him and he was going to try to make Kawhi happy,” Carter said. “I never said that before, because I was holding it until now. So, all these discussions about Kawhi going to the East, I believe Popovich is trying to accommodate Kawhi and trying to please him.”

A sports betting website recently made the Raptors heavy favorites to land Leonard. The two-time Defensive Player of the Year reportedly wants to play for one of the teams in Los Angeles (Lakers or Clippers) and will likely be a one-year rental if he’s traded anywhere else.

“Nothing’s changed from Kawhi’s side from these standpoints: He still wants to go to Los Angeles, and he’s still not interested in being rented out for one season,” Carter said. “So that being Philadelphia, Boston, Toronto or any other team. The thing that we should know is San Antonio has been in contact with Kawhi and his people, and they’ve told them that if something was to get real, real close, we’ll reach out to you. Well, it’s in their best interest and smart to reach out to him, and typically the other team that’s involved in the trade would be granted permission to reach out to the player that’s being traded. None of those things happened yesterday.”

Why are they so fixated on going to la right now when they can freely do it next year :wtf:

You not being interested in being rented out is the same as san antonio being interested in not wanting to deal with having to trade you but eventually both sides gonna have to deal with it :dahell:
tens of millions of dollars for kawhi and cap space for the lakers

if he's traded, he keeps his bird rights, can sign the supermax for 200 plus million, the lakers can go over the cap to resign him, leaving more space for other players

if he goes freely, he can only be signed under the cap. he loses his supermax.. which is about 30-40 million more than PG just got

Considering the tax implications Kawhi is risking a lot more than 30 million.

Some people are saying that tells you how badly he wants out of San Antonio.
But on the other hand, there are rumors that the main reason Kawhi's team is pushing for a trade out of SAS is because they won't offer him the Supermax. I've read that if the Spurs did offer the Supermax to Kawhi right now, he'd likely sign it. Rumor is the Spurs are reluctant to do that right now because they either want to be sure Kawhi is healthy or be sure that his representation won't be so hostile moving forward. Or both.

i don't know about that... if that was the case, he'd be open to signing with the other 29 teams who would give the supermax

the ONLY thing he wants is the la lakers.. not even the clippers.. lakers..

so once we establish that. it's only two options. go with the supermax in a trade.. go without one and lose millions

I believe the two people who said they spoke to the uncle directly. Stephen A and Chris Carter.

If the words “I spoke to Kawhi’s team” doesn’t come out their mouth, fukk the rumor

I have no doubt that people like Shams, SAS, and Cris Carter are speaking to Kawhi’s uncle.

But I think they’re being mouthpieces to further the uncle’s agenda/strategy than they are actually behaving with journalistic integrity.

It’s funny to me that these people seem to always be in touch with sources of Kawhi’s team but rarely have much to say about sources in the actual Spurs organization.
