There is too much younger talent in the league to be overcommitting to end-of-their prime players, especially ones with an injury history. They leave themselves with limited flexibility to acquire more impactful players.

Seems like this happens with these big name billionaire team owners. Their vigorous approach to business is what they also apply to acquiring players. Remember Mark Cuban was like this for a long time. Just throw money at any big name player and sign him.
