The Raptors organization in hindsight feels a sense of relief and realize that they dodged a bullet when Kawhi Leonard didn’t want to come back with them 5 summers ago and chose the clippers instead. The 2019 playoffs was the last postseason in which he was fully healthy, productive and dominant. Toronto got his last best year and his last healthy year in his playoff career, and a NBA chip. As a raps fan, I don’t hold any grudge against him because we got the best of him and he took us to the top just like we wanted all along. He was the first true gamebreaker on the team since Vince « Air Canada » Carter (he was obviously and objectively better than both Chris Bosh and Demar DeRozan) and the first and only dominant #1 scoring option, go-to player and closer in Toronto Raptor playoff history. And he was a better rebounder, passer, inbounder, playmaker, shooter and defender than any of bosh/demar/carter. He could burn you on both sides of the ball, on offense and on defense. Board man gets paid, board man got paid.

He did his job well just like a polite, efficient and professional hired-gun/mercenary. He left the raptors on good terms without drama and bad memories. It was a perfect win -win situation for both parties -him, the Fun Guy got us a chip, and he won a chip with us as the main guy and made plenty of money in the summer as a free agent later that summer. And he was injury prone and disappointing player ipwithnthe clippers so no regrets at the end, time heals all wounds. At least he didn’t sign with Boston or Philly that Summer, both direct and divisional rivals to Toronto. In the worst alternative scenario, theyCeltics could have signed Kawhi to replace Kyrie(who left for Brooklyn as a free agent that summer) or Philly could have replaced Jimmy Butler with Kawhi and let Tobias Harris go. A potential Embiid/Leonard duo would have dominated the east.

As a raps fan, I don’t hold any grudge against him. I never expected to resign with toronto she stay here anyway. I mean he was a pretty much only a one-season rental, instead of coming here at the trade deadline, he came to the raptors through a summer blockbuster trade. He probably wanted to be sent to LA at that time, but the spurs front office traded him and his good friend Danny Green to T.O out of spite. Joke was on them because the raps were a strong team in the mid to late 2010s, they finished first in the eastern conference the season before and would grab the second seed with a even better roster the following year.

Kawhi was healthy in 2020

Raptors have an excellent chance of repeating if Kawhi was there.

I am seeing comparisons to the likes of Penny, Rose, G. Hill. If we talking San Antonio sure that fits. But this Clipper shyt is a something totally different. Being hurt is one thing...could happen to anybody. But already being hurt and telling the team you are gonna play 50 games a year and making them trade a future MVP candidate and all their picks for your boy who is also injury prone and a choker and then you both choke in the one year you finish healthy and then you magically can play in a contract year, get your deal, and then right back out again is the nastiest of nasty work.

2019 Raptors Championship run.

That Kawhi and 05-06 Kobe are the closest Jordan re-gens I’ve ever seen
Dude was nice that year but we gotta stop this. A fadeaway, Bron spite, and luck doesnt make you Jordan breh. If he was that in 19 what happened to him, perfectly healthy with a 4 month break in ideal conditions one year later? He had one serendipitous run...that doesnt an all-time peak make.
